Pest Control Services In Florida
Florida pest work is its own thing. Drywood termites can mean tenting the house, palmetto bugs fly, and fire ants can turn a backyard into a no-go zone in a few weeks.
Termite ControlSubterranean, Formosan and drywood termites are all active here. Drywood jobs sometimes mean tenting, and you’ll be out of the house for two or three nights.
Roach ExterminationPalmetto bugs (big American roaches) come in from outside. German roaches breed inside, and they’re the ones to worry about.
Rodent ControlRoof rats love Florida. They climb palms and power lines and nest in attics, so the fix starts with sealing the roofline.
Bed Bug TreatmentHotels, rentals and college towns keep bed bugs moving around the state. Heat treatment clears most homes in a day.
Ant ControlFire ants in the lawn, ghost ants in the kitchen. Ghost ants are tiny and follow plumbing lines, so spraying the trail rarely works.
Wasps & HornetsPaper wasps build under eaves all year here. Nests get big fast in the summer heat, so knock them down early. What To Know About Pests In Florida
Most of the country gets a break in winter. Florida doesn’t. The heat and rain mean pests breed faster, stay active longer, and get inside more easily.
Termite colonies don’t slow down when it gets cold because it barely does. Roaches that would die off up north just move deeper into your walls.
When Pests Are Most Active In Florida
- Spring
- Termite swarms start as early as February in South Florida. Lovebugs show up in May and splatter every windshield on I-75.
- Summer
- Rainy season. Mosquitoes, roaches and ants are at their worst, and afternoon storms push bugs indoors.
- Fall
- Lovebugs come back in September. Roof rats start looking for warm attics once the nights cool a little.
- Winter
- Pests slow down but don’t stop. Roaches and termites stay busy inside walls, and it’s a good time to book prevention work.
Most Common Pest Calls In Florida
MosquitoesFlorida’s heat and standing water keep mosquitoes active most of the year. Beyond the bites, they’re a real health concern, so a lot of homeowners bring in a technician for yard treatment before summer gatherings.
German CockroachesGerman cockroaches spread fast in Florida’s humidity, especially in kitchens and around water heaters. A few sightings can mean dozens are already breeding behind the walls.Common Pests In Florida
With no real cold snap to kill things off, Florida has more pests active in January than most states have in July. Here’s what we treat most often.
Why Use PestControlUSA In Florida

How much does pest control cost in Florida?
Angi’s national range for a one-time general visit is $300 to $550. Termite work costs more, and full tent fumigation for drywood termites can run $1,500 to $8,000 depending on the size of the house.
Quarterly plans are common here because pests never really slow down. Send us the details and you’ll get a real quote.
Do I need to tent my house for termites?
Only for some drywood termite infestations. Subterranean and Formosan termites are usually treated with soil treatments or bait stations, no tent needed.
If tenting is needed, plan to stay somewhere else for two or three nights and bag up food and medicine.
What’s the difference between a palmetto bug and a cockroach?
Not much. Palmetto bug is a Florida nickname for big outdoor roaches, mostly the Florida woods cockroach and the American cockroach. They live outside and walk in.
German cockroaches are smaller and breed inside your kitchen. If you see small light-brown roaches during the day, that’s the one that needs treatment fast.
Are fire ants dangerous for kids and pets?
They can be. Fire ants swarm and sting when a mound gets disturbed, and some people react badly to the stings.
A yard treatment with bait kills the queen. Pouring boiling water or gas on a mound just moves the colony a few feet.
Is a quarterly plan worth it in Florida?
For most homes, yes. Pests stay active all year, so a perimeter treatment every three months keeps roaches and ants outside.
It’s less useful for a condo high up in a building with HOA pest service. Ask what’s already included before you sign up.
Are the treatments safe around kids and pets?
Licensed techs use products labeled for homes. Keep kids and pets off treated areas until they dry, usually a couple of hours.
Fumigation is different. Nobody, including pets and plants, can be in the house until it’s cleared.
Can I handle Florida pests myself?
A few ants or the odd palmetto bug, sure. Seal gaps and fix leaks first.
Termites, German roaches and bed bugs are another story. Store sprays spread them around and make a pro treatment harder later.
